Sontaras Part Finale

So, after some advice from friends about ink washes & how to mix paints, this is the final product.

I guess I could try for something shinier on the body armor, but at this point, I'm happy with the way they came out, so will call it good.

Finished my 1st pass at painting the converted Sontarans.



Not sure if they're done or if I want to do something more to give them more definition & shading.

The Pledge Feb 25

Bought 8 modern infantry from
Dadi & Piombo for my Doctor Who UNIT forces. I got 1 pack of French & 1 pack of Italians to be combined to make a heavy support squad.

12 25mm figures * 1.5 = 18 figures

Total figures to "finish": 56 + 18 = 74

Sontarans Part 2

Did the helmets, & included the chest detailing on a few of the figures. I decided against trying to do any additional detailing on the helmets like the crest since it would probably be pretty involved & tough to get to look right.

Now just need to finish the small pistol like weapons off & replace them with the Sontaran's rod weapon. Then they'll be ready for painting. Not sure if I'll try to do the light blue uniform color as shown in the prior post, or if I'll use the more classic dark grey/black color.

Sontarans Part 1

Got some of the Starguard Heavy Power Armor from Leading Edge Games' Living Steel line as part of an ebay auction.
I intend to try to convert them into Sontaran Troopers for Doctor Who.

Here are the figures after I've ground off all the straps, belts & pouches, & modified the guns a little. Since I ended up grinding away a good portion of some of the figures' legs, I added some putty to make them not look quite so spindly.

Next I'll build up their helmets with more putty to get the dome like shape of the Sontarans, & for those that I've ground off all chest detailing (like the 1st in the top row) I may try to put another layer of putty down to re-engrave new detail to match the rest.

The Pledge

Taking TMP's Pledge, trying to clear out unfinished lead (painting myself, paying to have them painted, or selling/trading off). Will reduce my pile 1.5 figures more than I buy this year. & using 25mm as the unit of measure, all figures will be converted into that scale (e.g. 4 6mm figures will = 1 25mm).

So far I've bought:

90 6mm Battletech Infantry figures = 22 25mm figures * 1.5 = 33 figures that I now have to get out of my raw lead pile by the end of the year

5 15mm monsters * 1.5 = 5

2 25mm (clown & messanger monkey) figures * 1.5 = 3 figures

Total raw lead to be reduced= 41 figures
